What is a partial domestic rewire?

A partial rewire means replacing or upgrading just a small section or circuit. This could even be just one part of a circuit. A partial rewire is often necessary when damage or wear and tear has caused electrical issues and safety problems.

Does your homes need a full or partial rewire?

If you’re not sure whether your property needs a full or partial rewire it is recommended that an Electrical Installation Condition Report is carried out by a professional and qualified electrician.
Some of the different home renovations and improvements that may require a full or partial rewire include:
New Cooker circuits, New shower circuits, New lighting circuits, New ring circuits, New outdoor circuits and Cable repairs or replacement.

What are the legal requirements around domestic rewires?

While there are no legal obligations about when you will need to rewire your property, if your wiring is more than 25 years old it is recommended that this is updated and replaced. This is because after such a time period it is highly likely that your wiring and circuitry will not meet current building safety standards and regulations, and will need to be rewired or partially rewired to bring these up to standard.

What are some of the problems surrounding domestic rewires?

Domestic rewires can often be a little bit more problematic then they might have initially appeared. This is because many older homes and properties have had DIY electrical work carried out by people who were not trained professionals, using standards that are not up to current safety regulation, such as BS 7671. This can mean that improper circuitry has been used and all of this will need to be replaced to bring your home up to standard.
